Sister Mary took us on our first field trip of the county of Carlow, Ireland. We got to see a lot of old graveyards and churches, as well as a wishing well that has a natural spring running through it, and is still to this day used for blessings. Most of the churches and cemeteries that we visited dated back to the 1400's. It was very surreal being in these places that were so beautiful, delicate and old. I really appreciated everything I saw today, and took tons of pictures.
Sister Mary taught us a lot about the background of the churches and the areas, and it was awesome to hear about the incredible history of such a tiny town in Ireland.
We also took a trip to New Ross to see a replication of an Irish Immigration ship, and experienced what it would be like to be on a ship during the great famine in Ireland. It was really interesting to learn about the trials and tribulations of all the people in the past that have struggled to make a better life for themselves. We definitely take advantage of a lot nowadays, and the tour really made me realize that.
All in all, it was a great day. We learned a ton, and I can't wait until next week when we take a trip to Dublin.
