a) Describe your first impressions and observations of your new city (Remember: Observe,
don’t judge!).
My first impression of Carlow, Ireland is how tightly knit the townspeople seem to be. The town is fairly small compared to the city that I'm from. With that said, the townspeople all know each other, and interact with each other on the street, greeting each other and catching the latest news while they make their way somewhere, which i find endearing. In the busy city, there is no chance that you'll get greeted the way you do here, with actual concern and heartfelt sweetness.
The people of Carlow seem to live such a simple life, and are very happy in general. I love the fact that the townspeople seem to be enjoying life, and take advantage of every opportunity to enjoy themselves.
b) Describe your program’s orientation. Tell us about three things that happened in
the orientation that stood out to you.
The orientation for the college was nice. We sat and met with a few of the people that are able to help us during the semester, such as the nurse, the counselor, and the student union. We reviewed the rules of the college, and went over the basics.
We also did exercises to get aquainted with our group. Sister Mary led us in some interesting ice breakers that were fun, and brought in a guest that to our surprise, had brought African drums. He helped us learn some of the traditional celebration songs, and we had fun.
The college supplied us with a BBQ, which me and my group really enjoyed, especially over the long day. The burgers were great, and we got to sit out on the grass and chat before returning to orientation.
Overall, orientation was nice. Can't wait to start classes and see how it goes.
